- China Telecom recently revealed the results of the tender under the joint procurement process for mid-range CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) mobile phones, the chinabyte.com reported on June 28, adding that the company had selected 57 out of 264 phone models. With the participation of 12 channel distributors, China Telecom kicked off the tender to purchase five million mid-range CDMA mobile phones under a price tag of 2,000 RMB (US$294.1; US$1 = 6.8 RMB) in February 2010. A total of 243 CDMA phone models provided by 66 international and Chinese mobile phone companies were participated in the tender, and 64 of which were Smartphones, according to the same source. As of mid-June 2010, 75 out of 243 CDMA phone models passed the tests developed by China's MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology). In addition, 44 out of 75 qualified CDMA phone models are available in the market, according again to the chinabye.com.

 

As of the year-end 2009, the number of China Telecom CDMA phones available in the market totaled around 600. Thus far, the number has approached 1,000. As of the end of May, 2010, the average price of China Telecom CDMA 2000 phone models was 420 RMB (US$61.8), down 300 RMB (US$44.1) in comparison to that in 2009 and equivalent to the average price of its GSM phone models; the average price of China Telecom CDMA2000 1xEVDO (Evolution Data Only) phone model was 2,500 RMB (US$367.6), down 650 RMB (US$95.6) as compared to 2009, according to the same source.

 

- The TD-SCDMA Industry Alliance announced on July 1 that the results of the fourth round of the TD-SCDMA (Time Division-Synchronous CDMA) network equipment procurement tender floated by China Mobile in May 2010 will be released soon, the Sohu IT News reported on July 1. The results, which were expected to be come out on June 30, are yet to be announced. Through the fourth round of the tender, China Telecom plans to deploy 102,000 million base stations, streamline the network coverage in 238 cities, and expand TD-SCDMA network coverage in 101 prefecture-level cities. Eight companies are expected to participate in this tender, including Ericsson and Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell, Datang Telecom, Nokia Siemens Networks, Huawei, New Postcom, ZTE and Potevio.
